Start time: 7am registration; Ride begins @ 8am sharp

Join Delaware Governor John Carney and other celebrity riders on Sunday, May 17 for a scenic 24-kilometer (15 miles) cycle tour through Brandywine Valley cultural attractions.
The Wilmington Grand Prix Governor’s Ride will offer recreational cyclists the unique opportunity to ride through world-class institutions such as Hagley Museum & Gardens and Winterthur Museum, Garden and Library. Museum experts will be on hand to answer questions and offer insight into the attractions.
The ride is being held in conjunction with the Delaware Gran Fondo (100 kilometers) and will feature a mass start with professional racers, amateurs and recreational riders all departing at 8 a.m. from the Delaware Art Museum on Wilmington’s Kentmere Parkway. Riders will then circle Rockford Park, passing the iconic Rockford Tower and working their way to the Brandywine River and the gates of Hagley Museum.
Once inside Hagley (site of the gunpowder works founded by E. I. du Pont in 1802), riders will be meet their first significant challenge, a 1.6-mile climb that begins on the banks of the Brandywine River and works its way past Hagley mills and onto Buck Road. Riders then exit Hagley via Buck Road and proceed to historic Route 100, where they will be tested by a mild 1.5-mile climb to the gates of Winterthur Museum, Garden and Library. The reward for the climb is a magnificent 2.5-mile ride through the bucolic 1,000-acre estate, passing the 175-room mansion, a portion of the steeplechase course, and exiting onto perhaps Delaware’s most popular road for cycling, Route 52, a road designated as a National Scenic Byway. The Delaware Museum of Natural History is next, where riders can catch their breath at this rest stop and take in the sights. Participants will then head south on Route 52 back into Wilmington, passing historic Tower Hill School and the lower portion of Rockford Park before taking Kentmere Parkway back to the Delaware Art Museum. A robust post-ride party in the museum’s sculpture garden awaits the finishers.
