Governor’s Ride

Start time: 7am registration; Ride begins @ 8am sharp

Join Governor Markell and other celebrity riders on an escorted 24-kilometer (15-mile) ride. The course will offer cyclists the unique opportunity to ride through world-class cultural attractions. The ride starts and finishes at the Delaware Art Museum with a finish- line party in the sculpture garden.

Rest stop: There will be a fully stocked aide station at the Delaware Museum of Natural History and refreshments and the start/finish at Delaware Art Museum.

Participants receive a Swag Bag, USA Cycling rider insurance, course marking, aid stations, post-ride BBQ, t-shirt, bike valet service at festivities and more.

You must wear the wristband provided at registration and have your rider number on your handlebars. Helmets with buckled chin straps must be worn at all times. Headphones of any kind are not allowed.

RIDER PACKET PICKUP:

Sun, 5/15: Beginning at 6:00am at ride start (Delaware Art Museum)

All Welcome bags with souvenir Tshirts, etc. will be given to riders at the completion of their ride. (no need to run things back to your car or have us hold items). Gran Fondo riders, your registration/chip pick-up will be a one-step process.

The Brandywine Valley offers some of the best cycling terrain on the East Coast.

Experience one of the most scenic cycling routes in the U.S. as the Wilmington Grand Prix’s 5th Annual Delaware Gran Fondo offers cyclists the unique opportunity to traverse a challenging 100-kilometer course linked by 13 cultural attractions, including stunning rides through world-class institutions such as Delaware Art Museum, Hagley Museum & Gardens and Winterthur Museum, Garden and Library. The Delaware Gran Fondo will allow cyclists the rare privilege of passing through these attractions on the same ride. In 2015, riders from 17 states participated in this “bucket list” ride.

A Media Fondo (half-century course) is also offered. Same registration fee and benefits. You can decide day-of which distance you’d like to ride.

The Wilmington Grand Prix Gran Fondo is 100km (62 miles) long. The Media Fondo is 50km (31 miles) long.

Participants will receive a welcome packet including a commemorative Tshirt, USA Cycling rider insurance, course marking, four aid stations, post-ride party, raffle prizes, bike valet service at festivities and more.

Riders must be 16 or older to participate.

First Climb: At 16.4-mile mark. Distance .8 mile/Avg. Grade 4.5%

Second Climb: At 21.7-mile mark. Distance .25 mile/Avg. Grade 2.5% ALL NEW CLIMB!

Is a GPS map of the course available for download?

IMPORTANT NOTE: The early segment of the course is so unique that there are no public roads in Hagley Museum and Winterthur and the roads you will ride on those estates do not appear on Google Maps and will not appear via your ride-mapping apps. Therefore, the GPS course will begin when riders emerge from Winterthur Museum & Gardens. YOU CAN DOWNLOAD THE COURSE BELOW AND ACTIVATE IT AS YOU EXIT WINTERTHUR (mile mark 11.1).
